Council puts off a vote on changing the kitchen definition in homestay rules.

Homestays can't have a kitchen. Under the rule at the time, any space with a stove, full-sized refrigerator or kitchen sink counted as one. The change would have made a stove the main test, so homestays could add a sink and refrigerator. Staff said it would also make it easier to switch a space between housing and lodging by adding or removing a stove.

  • Passed. Voted no: Councilman Kapoor and Councilman Young.

Still pending: Council sent this and other issues raised that night to its Planning and Economic Development Committee. Under Council's rules, a separate motion can bring it back within 100 days. For now, the kitchen rule stays as it is.

From the minutes: This motion was seconded by Vice-Mayor Wisler and carried on a 5-2 vote, with Councilman Kapoor and Councilman Young voting “no.”
